MANOLO BLAHNIK
50 years in short
Manolo Blahnik was born in 1942, in the Canary Islands, Spain. His passion for luxury shoes stems from his mother, who favored designer footwear and was taught by a local cobbler to make her own shoes out of available materials. Blahnik subsequently expressed an interest in shoe design at an early age, fashioning creations for his pets out of muslin and cotton ribbons.
Blahnik settled in London in 1969, pursuing his passion for design. In 1971, he developed his first collection for a runway show of the most prominent fashion designer of the time, Ossie Clark. Shortly afterwards, he opened his first boutique on Old Church Street in Chelsea. In no time, his creations gained international recognition and were spotted on the fashion elite. Fast forward to Carrie Bradshaw and Sex and the City, the brand was transformed into a household name. The rest is history…
